Prepare the area
Remove weeds, grass, and debris.

Apply the mulch
Spread a generous, even layer of mulch over the soil. Lightly press the mulch into place if needed. Keep the mulch 1–2 inches away from plant stems, tree trunks, and shrub bases to allow airflow and prevent rot.

Water it in
A light watering helps the fibers settle and interlock, so the mat holds together against wind and heavy rain.
